What happened?

Maddison (@momentswithmadd) explains that starting her U-Haul pickup was pretty chaotic. After the reserved truck wasn’t available at the nearest U-Haul, they had to drive to a further location to pick it up. They also had some trouble getting the truck at this location, but eventually they figured it out.

Unfortunately, the truck they got had less than a quarter full of gas. They said that’s why they stopped to get gas. It’s important to note that despite the inconvenience Maddison experienced, U-Haul was courteous enough to give them a discount on the truck if they let her drive to another location.

Maddison says the “fiasco” happened after they got petrol.

“After I filled up the tank, the little accident happened. So basically I guess I hit my head on the dashboard. I didn’t even know until I saw blood everywhere,” they explain. Maddison shows viewers an L-shaped spot above her eye, which she sustained in the accident. They also mention that their 86-inch television, bed frame, vanities and other items were broken as a result of the collision.

The video has 216,200 views and more than 7,500 likes at the time of writing. In the caption, Maddison reveals that the accident resulted in them receiving five stitches. They also add: “Even if you have your own car insurance, ALWAYS purchase additional insurance to avoid having to make a claim on your personal policy.”

@momentswithmadd 5 stitches, a loser shaped scar and a lot of broken stuff later, I’m happy to say it all worked out. Seriously, even if you have your own car insurance, ALWAYS get additional insurance so you don’t have to make a claim on your personal policy. #storytime #accident #wreck #uhaul #freakaccident #viral #fyp #seattle #washington #moving #newapartment #insurance #crazy #lucky #luckytobealive #fypage #caraccident #wa #pnw #fy #oops ♬ Original sound – MomentsWithMadd

Is U-Haul insurance even worth it?

According to Maddison, yes. They say any items that were broken during the accident were covered by insurance, in addition to repairs to the truck and medical bills from the accident. Based on the $28 Maddison paid for insurance, it appears that they purchased U-Haul’s Safe Move Plus insurance, which covers up to $1,000,000 worth of damage.

“All I have to do is tell them how long I’ve had it, where I bought it, how much I bought it for, and then they send me a check in a few weeks,” says Maddison.

What do the viewers say?

Most viewers agree that purchasing insurance is the wisest decision.

“This is exactly why I 100% always purchase Uhaul insurance! They even state that if you don’t take out the insurance, you will be charged upfront for any damages,” one comment reads.

“This applies to all rentals! Always get the liability waiver, think about it; Either you pay the full amount again for your car (+more) or you pay $200 for your weekend getaway,” shares another commenter.

“Always insure with uhaul…I used to work for uhaul and the insurance is worth it,” another comment said.
